The Mancomunidad de las V Villas is a local organisation which is made up of the town councils of ‘Muros de Nalón’, ‘Pravia’, ‘Salas’ and ´Soto de Barco´. It was formed in 1985 with the aim of minimising costs and for adequately managing resources of the four town councils so as to make them more profitable. As its name suggests it is an organisation which pools certain resources amongst which are included: the Agency for Local Development, the Agency for Equal Opportunities, the Promotion of Tourism Service, Women’s Advice Centre and Rubbish Collection.

It works together with the Rural Development Group of ‘Bajo Nalón’ on certain topics related to regional development, particularly those of international co-operation and European funded Programmes, through the signing of collaboration agreements. The fundamental objective of the Mancomunidad is to give quality services to the local population, providing them with a high quality of life whilst fully managing and improving public services. It also supports through its various services, the local socio-economic structure managing all types of aid, aimed at its own improvement and growth.
