The Cantabrian Network of Rural Development is a non-profit making organisation made up of 6 organisations which manage within Cantabria and the Community Leader + Initiative and the Prodercan Operative Programme. The Cantabrian Network of Rural Development was created by the Cantabrian Gal members in order to cover two main objectives:

To represent their members with regard to the management of the programmes and to work to ensure that the programmes are being carried out in these areas

To provide useful and accurate information to the different technical teams which have to manage the Programmes and Initiatives for Rural Development
Initially the network originated from the concerns of those responsible for the technical teams who had to manage with relatively limited services, like that of establishing an exchange of experiences forum and representing common interests regarding the Intermediary Organisations

As the Local Action Groups evolve so increases the level of services that the Network lends to its member groups

To co-ordinate the groups to manage other possible programmes or initiatives able to contribute to our region’s development

To continue as a uniting link between the groups and the Government of Cantabria, to becoming an official spokesperson between the two. It is necessary to recognise that the success of the establishment of the Leader + and Prodercan development plans is due both to the Government of Cantabria, convinced of the value of the projects, and to good management by the six areas , who have worked well together and are setting up new challenges.

To prepare a training programme for the technical teams and provide technical assistance which will facilitate the continued use and improvement of the service offered in the areas.

To operate as an effective provider of information amongst the groups, supporting the search for partners for international projects and the exchange of experiences.

To promote, advise and collaborate with Local Action Groups in areas which haven’t yet been developed.

To co-ordinate the efforts of the Local Action Groups with the aim of transforming the Cantabrian Network of Rural Development into a useful provider of practical information which facilitates greater efficiency in the work of Rural Development

The creation of different Work Committees created for the technical teams of the Local Action Groups to cover their need
